HOME VACCINATION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS UNABLE TO GO TO PPVs

25 MARCH 2022 – As announced by the Minister of Heath YB Khairy Jamaluddin on March 17, 2022, senior citizens are advised to go for the COVID-19 vaccination and booster shot for better self-protection against the virus, especially with the start of Ramadan.

ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (ProtectHealth) is fully aware of the situation for some senior citizens and understand they may not be able to make their way to the PPV due to logistical issues. As such, ProtectHealth will assist the elderlies to obtain their booster shot by providing vaccination service at the comfort of their home by utilizing an existing programme called HOME VACCINATION.

The Home Vaccination service is a Government initiative, to expand the coverage and expedite booster dose vaccinations before the full vaccination privileges are withdrawn from those vaccine recipients who do not obtain the booster dose by 31 March 2022 and to protect the elderlies as they are the vulnerable groups.

During the fasting month, many senior citizens are expected to assemble at the mosques to perform Tarawih prayers and attend gatherings either indoors or outdoors. With these situations occurring over a prolonged period, and usually in close proximity there  are high possibilities in the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

Those who are interested can register through these methods:

  1. NATIONAL HOTLINE FOR HOME VACCINATION

This is a collaborative effort between ProtectHealth and Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) calling for all Malaysians/Non-Malaysians to register their elderly dependents who are unable to proceed to the PPV.

Any member of the public who are known to have elderly at home yet to obtain their vaccination appointment can call the hotline number at 1700-811-007 daily starting March 28, 2022 (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Alternatively, members of the public can drop a text via WhatsApp at +60126787911 and they will receive a response within 1 – 3 days.

ProtectHealth Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Dr. Anas Alam Faizli advises those elderlies to obtain their booster dose immediately to ensure that the transition to the endemic phase commencing April 1 can be implemented safely, and before the status of their certificate on their MySejahtera application turns to incomplete.

“For those who have not been boosted yet, the colour of the vaccination certificate in the MySejahtera application will change to White if they have not taken the booster dose before April 1. With the introduction of Home Vaccination, we want to provide a hassle-free and seamless experience for those elderlies unable to access the PPVs.

“Indeed, the Omicron wave is not seen as aggressive as Delta, but for the elderly, especially those with comorbidities, it will not be a mild disease as this can lead to death. As such, we appeal to members of the public to ensure your parents are protected against the COVID-19 virus. Please protect your loved ones, and by doing this, we will protect everyone and the communities,” he said.

As of 24 March 2022, a total of 15.5 million doses of booster have been administered and 12 million doses or 77.4% were contributed by Private Medical Practitioners (PMPs) and Healthcare Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) under ProtectHealth.

ProtectHealth through private medical practitioners and healthcare NGOs will continue to assist and work together with the Ministry of Health to expedite and maximise the implementation of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Booster.
