20 JULY 2022 – As one of the strategic partners for the National Health Screening Initiative (NHSI) campaign, which was launched on July 16, 2022, ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (ProtectHealth) came in full force with several Skim Peduli Kesihatan untuk Kumpulan B40 (PeKa B40) outreach programmes and awareness booths in several states of Malaysia from July 15 to 17, 2022.
The launch of the NHSI and Jelajah Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) leg in Perak was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, Menteri Besar of Perak and YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Health at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya, Ipoh. Running as a five-month campaign until end of this year, NHSI aims to screen 1.5 million people while PeKa B40 is targeting 200,000 for year 2022. The level of health awareness in the country is still low when only about 53 per cent of Malaysian adults have undergone medical check-ups in the past one-year. As such the Ministry of Health has launched the NHSI campaign through its Jom Saring! drive.
During the officiating ceremony, all strategic partners including ProtectHealth held placards to display their commitment towards the NHSI campaign. PeKa B40 is a Government initiative via the Ministry of Health that aims to sustain low-income groups’ healthcare needs by focusing on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and provides free health screening amongst others. ProtectHealth is the healthcare scheme administrator for PeKa B40.
A total of 5,950,291 Malaysians are eligible to receive benefits under the PeKa B40 programme. As of June 30, 2022, 640,553 individuals have been screened since the launch of PeKa B40 on 15 April 2019.
In tandem with the NHSI, as a snapshot ProtectHealth had co-organised PeKa B40 awareness campaigns and outreaches in Sabah, Penang and the Klang Valley from July 15-17, 2022:
● Collaboration with Yayasan PETRONAS on PeKa B40 Outreach Programme in Pitas, Sabah (Kg Mangkapon, Kg Boribi, Kg Gunsali, Kg Mapad and Kg Ranggal)
● PeKa B40 Promotional and Awareness Booth, in conjunction with Programme iSejahtera at Dewan Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah, Seberang Perai Tengah, Penang
● PeKa B40 Outreach Programme at Dewan Mutiara, Jabatan Kerja Raya, Seberang Perai Tengah, Penang
● PeKa B40 Promotional and Awareness Booth, in conjunction with BP Health Carnival at KL Convention Centre
● PeKa B40 Promotional and Awareness Booth at Karnival Komuniti PPZ-MAIWP at PPR Seri Perlis 2, Kuala Lumpur
Similar programmes are being aggressively conducted weekly nationwide to increase awareness and the health screening numbers nationwide.
PeKa B40 was designed to focus on early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancers, and heart diseases or known as NCD amongst the B40. Hence, beneficiaries would be more aware of their overall health status.
“Early detection saves lives. Members of the public may check their eligibility, by keying their IC number on our website at https://kelayakan.pekab40.com.my/semakan-kelayakan,” said Dato’ Dr. Anas.
